The People Behind the Megawatts

As the wind energy industry continues to evolve, conversations about technology, efficiency and performance often dominate the agenda. But behind every turbine, maintenance campaign and retrofit project stands something just as important: the people who make it all possible.

At NorSea, that belief is becoming a defining principle of how we build our growing Wind Technical Services division.

Director of Wind Technical Services, Christian Drechsler Christensen, is committed to facilitating sustainable growth built on responsible execution, strong partnerships and respect for the people driving the industry forward. He emphasised that success in wind energy is not only measured in megawatts, but in the people behind them. 

Taking a peek into a day in the life of Wind Technicians Nathan Connelly and Tim Thies suggest that this ambition extends beyond strategy and into daily operations.

The pace and uncertainty of the wind industry can sometimes be challenging, and working with turbines require technical competence, attention to detail and the ability to adapt to constantly changing project scopes and tasks.

For Nathan and Tim, who both joined NorSea in the spring and early summer of 2024, their workday ranges from downtime to busy schedules, and from maintenance reporting and smaller repairs to large retrofit projects. While every task presents new challenges, they describe a working environment where teamwork and knowledge-sharing make it possible to solve problems together – an approach that also extends into professional development.

“We’ve been to all sorts of different areas. I mean, I’ve worked in the towers, in the nacelles - basically everywhere there is to work here [Port of Esbjerg]. We have a foundational training that we can all draw upon, and then we develop professionally together every day on the job," Tim explains. 

As the business grows, Tim, Nathan and their collegaues are regularly facing new assignments and are encouraged to expand their competencies through hands-on experience and both mandatory and optional training. Rather than simply preparing for the next task, the focus is building long-term capabilities that strengthen both the individual and the organisation.
