The Tyra project is the largest investment in the Danish part of the North Sea ever.
The Tyra field, which accounted for 90 percent of Danish gas production, was temporarily shut down in the autumn 2019 to prepare for an extensive renovation: The two existing process and residential platforms were to be replaced by a new process platform and a new residential platform; the four wellhead platforms and two riser platforms were extended by 13 meters, and the old topsides were replaced.
With a total investment of approximately DKK 27 billion, the Tyra project is spectacularly large – certainly in the NorSea-context with Tyra being the biggest, most complex and comprehensive project we've ever worked on by far.
Thus, in the spring of 2020, we chose to dedicate a team of go-to people in the department store solely to the Tyra project, consisting of Evy Therkildsen, Mathias Clausen and myself.
That was a good idea!
Simply put, everything that cannot be on a barge has to go through us. We have received almost 25,000 different components; ranging from a single bolt to giant turbines from the various yards where the modules have been manufactured. Everything was registered and put into the system. We have used three ERP-systems to keep track of all the goods with Insemito from CSK-Group proving a crucial tool for keeping track of everything.
Skilled people
The new Tyra is composed of components and modules from Singapore, Indonesia/Batam, Italy, and Spain. We have been very pleased to be able to draw on the colleagues in Customs to ensure that we dealt correctly with VAT and customs duties, since the components came from all over the world. It has been a pleasure to experience, how the customs team and the logistics department responsible for the transport to Denmark have everything under control.
We have also needed to reach out to colleagues in logistics, stevedoring, boat dispatch, goods receipt, warehouse, QC dept., backload, base workers, and trucking, who have all been excellent helpers and sparring partners when we have had to get goods in, forwarded them to subcontractors and back again, as well as shipping to the Tyra field. Over 16,000 units have been shipped over the quayside for the project.
‘Like a railway station!’
For nearly five years, our working day has felt a bit like Copenhagen Central Station during rush hour! We have been the link between many people, wishes, and needs.
In many ways, the Tyra project has shown what we can do together in NorSea. The logistics of making it all fit in and run smoothly without disrupting the day-to-day operations too much has been challenging, and we've had to maneuver our way through systems and processes. Topping it all with a Corona pandemic and a split warehouse as a result hereof… let’s just say that didn't make it easier!
Still: We have succeeded in delivering goods – competently and professionally. We have all worked extremely well together and we have a lot to be proud of.
Would I do it again? Absolutely! Am I allowed by the family? Maybe not! :-)
